Bush Fire Danger Period
Permits to Burn - 1 October 2022
The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period started on 1 October & permits to burn are now required.
How to apply
For residents of The Hills Shire Council, the permit procedure has temporarily changed and is under review.
In the meantime, please follow these steps:
1. Email council to request approval to burn https://au.openforms.com/.../caa65d1d-ca3c-42e4-9e36...
2. Once you have received approval, contact the Brigade for a permit. The approval must be sighted before a permit can be issued.
3. Give your neighbours 24 hours' notice, and advise the RFS via www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
For more information on pile burning, go to: https://www.thehills.nsw.gov.au/.../Burning-Regulations...
There have been more than 1000 grass fires across the state since July, and the risk will increase in the months ahead.
Know your risk, and check the daily fire danger ratings.
The new Fire Danger Rating System has four levels – Moderate, High, Extreme and Catastrophic – with clear actions for each level.
